Last week I gave away 500 entrecard credits for my first ‘winning wednesday‘ competition, this week $50 USD is up for grabs!
As detailed in my earlier post all you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is subscribe to my rss feed via email, simple! Of course if you have already subscribed to my blog via email you will be automatically entered into the prize draw.
Be sure to keep a look out on your inboxes for any winning emails. Winners will also be revealed here on the blog. The winner will be picked at random via the services of Random.org. Payments will be made in US dollars via PayPal. A PayPal account is required.
You only have 24 hours, so get subscribing! Good luck and don’t forget once you have subscribed you are automatically entered into every other Winning Wednesday this month!
Last month I posted about how you should have a gravatar, a gravatar is an avatar system which will display a chosen avatar whenever you post a comment on a blog with gravatar support. So if you are a blog owner and would like to add support for these avatars then just follow this simple advice.
To begin with you will need to find your ‘comments’ template, open that up and then search for the following line of code:
<li class="<?php echo $oddcomment; ?>" id="comment-<?php comment_ID() ?>">
Once found add the following code after the line:
<?php if(!empty($comment -> comment_author_email)) {
$md5 = md5($comment -> comment_author_email);
$default = urlencode('DEFAULT PATH');
echo "<img src='http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=$md5&size=20&default=$default' alt='' />";
}

Finally, change the DEFAULT PATH in the code above to the location of a default avatar that will be used if the commenter has not defined (signed up for) a gravatar. Save your file, and now you should have gravatar support without the need of any plugin.

Recently I have been working on a redesign for my blog, mainly because I feel it’s about time I got a personalized look and a unique design to help strengthen my online identity and brand. I have made several designs and mocks in photoshop but haven’t really hit the nail on the head yet with the look I want to go for.
When the time is right I will no doubt show the mock designs, and of course the design I plan to go with here on the blog. In terms of 
colours I will be using blues, greys and blacks, and for branding I will continue to build upon using my personalized avatar, be it in advertising, emails and around the site. As for coding the design from a psd to a valid WordPress theme I am still on the look out for somebody to complete this task, and despite me having a few people/companies in mind I am always open to suggestions, so either drop a comment below or contact me.
Getting a custom design for my blog was one of my goals for 2008, and now having made a start on visualizing how I want it to look, I am feeling very confident on reaching this goal.
